The Naked Room

The Naked Room is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2018 in Kyiv by independent curators Lizaveta German and Maria Lanko, along with Swiss film director Mark Wilkins. The gallery produces solo projects by Ukrainian artists in its own space and also represents them on the international market. Since its inception, the gallery has worked with artists who are not sufficiently visible in Ukraine and globally, focusing primarily on emerging talents. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the gallery’s programme has shifted towards supporting artists who continue to live and work in Ukraine, as well as fostering international collaborative projects. Among the artists we work with are Lucy Ivanova, Katya Buchatska, Petro Ryaska, Anna Zvyagintseva, Dariia Kuzmych, Vitaliy Kokhan, and Anton Saienko. Additionally, The Naked Room collaborates with several established artists and/or their families to ensure recognition of their early work and archives, Pavlo Makov, Tiberiy Szilvashi, Viktor Marushchenko and Alexander Chekmenev among them.

In 2019, the gallery established the Artist Estate of Oleg Holosiy, the first institution of its kind in Ukraine, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the artist, who passed away nearly 30 years ago. In 2021, The Naked Room, together with Montblanc, launched the Artists Prize, a professional accolade awarded by artists to artists. In the same year, the gallery was selected to represent Ukraine at the 59th Venice Biennale with the project Fountain of Exhaustion. Acqua Alta by Pavlo Makov.
