Light Preview

This week, The Naked Room will open the doors of its new space at 2a Zolotovoritska Street for a first glimpse. To “illuminate” the gallery while it is still under reconstruction, we invited two artists who work quite literally with light: Denys Ruban and Oleh Baranovskyi.

Denys Ruban’s medium is domestic junk and waste. Fragments of plastic bottles, broken glass, metal rods and hoses, LED strips and balloons become kinetic objects of colour and light in his hands. Playful and ephemeral, they transform any space into something between a children’s room, an observatory, and an alchemist’s study.

Oleh Baranovskyi’s lamps, by contrast, are strict and laconic. Made from upcycled glass, natural stone, and custom-designed details, they—as the classics would say—“tie the room together”: in other words, they bring a sense of warmth and comfort to the space.
